Beaulieu Retaining Wall

Work has been going on for years now around Arnhem Central Station to improve accessibility of the station, as well as general renovation work. The railway is being extended with two tracks that will come to lie quite closely to the Beaulieu apartment complex. A 200 metre-long, 16 metre-high retaining concrete wall is being built to prevent hindrance from vibrations and subsidence of the building. An unusual detail in this project is that the trench into which the concrete wall is to be poured has to be dug out by hand. As a result, the wall will take a year to build.

Merford is supplying dozens of truckloads of vibration insulating rubber (Regupol) for this project, to be installed against the wall (on the track side). Part of this wall will be above ground, and another part will be below ground. The latter part will be provided with vibration insulating rubber to counter the vibrations caused by the trains crossing the tracks.
